This programme is not currently included in our timetable.  It is included here to give some ideas for a programme on peer mentoring for schools and other organisations who might want such a programme.

Many schools invite older pupils to act as mentors to younger pupils, or to those who need support or help, whether routinely or in crisis situations.  This programme is intended for your young people who have, or may be going to undertake, such a mentoring responsibility.  In their position as a mentor they might be involved in some of the following: enabling new students in settling into the school and assisting them through the first few months, dealing with particular problems or concerns that younger pupils are facing, running group sessions or activities and referring issues to school staff.

The programme will help them to think through these different roles and look at skills they can develop to assist them. We will be focussing on the following areas: confidence building, communication skills, managing groups / group work, dealing with conflict, assertiveness, pastoral skills and liasing with staff.

Ideally this programme needs two days.  It can be provided residentially if desired.
