Southwell House Youth Project

ALCOHOL POLICY

This policy applies to:
> all employees of Southwell House Youth Project who are on duty on a programme;
> all those who have care of young or vulnerable people at Southwell House or on any programme run by them elsewhere;
> all those who are staff or leaders of young or vulnerable people following their own programme at Southwell House.
It is to be agreed by all groups and leaders as part of the terms and conditions applying to every booking. It applies also to junior or assistant leaders who are in an assistant or training capacity, or who occupy similar roles.

All staff and leaders on programmes or on IC duties must refrain from alcohol during their time at Southwell House, and for a sufficient time before they arrive to ensure that their blood alcohol levels are below the level required for safe driving at all times while they are in charge of young or vulnerable people or other guests, and that they are in a fit condition to lead and to deal with emergencies.  The reason for this is to ensure that everyone who is responsible for young or vulnerable people can be relied upon to make sensible and clear-headed decisions for their welfare at all times.
In groups where there are adults who have no responsibility for the young or vulnerable people in the group, only those who are in any leadership role need observe this policy. Such groups are reminded of the need to make sure that those on duty are clear about their role and responsibilities.
